What are Reference Spheres?

What is a reference sphere?

If you’ve only briefly glanced at the Laser Scanning America website, you know we focus on providing a variety of high quality reference spheres. However, delving into the finer details of these 3D surveying targets can be a little bit tedious. A “Flexi”? What is that? Should I be getting the Surveyor or the UltraX? Do I really need the XXL or would a Standard be fine? In order to help our customers answer these questions, we decided to put up a concise description about each of our laser scanning reference spheres.

Now, if you’re a little unsure about what registration points actually are, there’s a great article explaining the finer details of 3D surveying targets on the LaserScanning America Blog. You can also read a brief synopsis about target spheres at the bottom of this page. Either way, if you’re not prepped on the importance of control points to laser scanner measurement, we’d definitely suggest studying up before continuing!

For the seasoned laser scanning and 3D surveying veterans that want a concise, easily identifiable list of differences between our globe targets, this is the moment you’ve been waiting for!
